Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
