Triple award winner Jokic suffers a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental contact with fellow Nugget Jones.
His teammate came down on the foot of the big man, who promptly went down to the floor holding his leg.
The star, that tops the league this season in boards and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.
Jokic is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"Immediately, Jokic realized there was a problem," said Denver head coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as important as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, at this moment, I'm more concerned just about him as a person and the frustration of going through an event of that nature."
