Conservative governors in multiple US territories have assigned National Guard units on readiness preparing for widespread protests challenging Donald Trump and his policies.

Organizers of the "Anti-Monarchy" initiative declared that events are arranged at more than 2,500 sites throughout the nation.
Based on protest leaders, the last No Kings gathering in June brought out more than five million demonstrators protesting Trump's political approach.
State Responses
Governors in Texas and the Old Dominion have formally activated their local National Guard units, though the degree of defense presence remains unclear.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott cited the "planned antifa-linked demonstration" as reasoning for calling up local forces.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin correspondingly directed deployment of the state's National Guard forces.
Ideological Statements
Protest coordinators characterized the events as resistance to Trump's "authoritarianism."
"The administration considers his rule is unlimited," participants argue on their digital presence.
"But in America, we don't have absolute rulers and we will not retreat against chaos, corruption, and brutality."
Various Republicans have labeled the demonstrations as "Unpatriotic" gatherings.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall allegedly remarked ahead of the protests: "We must get the National Guard."
"With luck it'll be peaceful. I have reservations," he added.
Critic Reaction
Democratic representatives criticized the deployment of military troops.
Texas Democrat Gene Wu contended: "Deploying armed soldiers to quell peaceful demonstrations is exactly what dictators and dictators do — and Greg Abbott just proved he's one of them."
