Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with results this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
