Paceman Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Concerns.
'Major setback' for England after Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test against Australia.
The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
Team management stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".
The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The English side has previously lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.
The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.
He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.
The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of English batsmen who passed ten runs.
After bowling one over late on the first day, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.
Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed of the third.
