Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
