The bowler's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was against the English side in December 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The ex- Kiwi seamer is only likely to be present for the first Test because of his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, assumed a role as England's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.

Speaking as the English team for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, Southee said of his availability: "We're still working through that at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the next little while."

English pace icon Broad had declared the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," he remarked.

"The team's attention is firmly on what we're trying to do. I think the caliber of [England's] side that's going out to the host country is brilliant.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, prior to the English team travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
